Eventcreate.exe creates incorrect event types in some localized Windows XP versions (326953)

SYMPTOMS

In some localized versions of Windows XP, the Eventcreate.exe tool may create incorrect event types in the event log.

For example, with the French version of Windows XP, the following commands demonstrate the problem:

eventcreate /T ERROR /ID 100 /L SYSTEM /D "test1"
eventcreate /T WARNING /ID 100 /L SYSTEM /D "test2"
eventcreate /T INFORMATION /ID 100 /L SYSTEM /D "test3"

These commands generate three events of type "Informations," instead of the correct types: "Erreur" for ERROR, "Avertissement" for WARNING, and "Informations" for INFORMATION. If you view the properties, the first two events have an actual event type of "Aucun" (for "Undefined," which is incorrect). The properties for the third event contain the correct event type ("Informations").
