Some Windows 2000 Active Directory Hotfixes May Cause a Conflict with SP3 for Windows 2000: 2 of 2 (326936)

SYMPTOMS

If you install a post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) version of any of the Windows 2000 hotfixes that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article on a computer on which Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000 is installed, or if you install SP3 for Windows 2000 on a computer on which these post-SP3 hotfixes are installed, you may experience either of the following symptoms:
  • You lose the functionality of one or more of the updates that SP3 for Windows 2000 provides.

    -or-

  • You lose the functionality of the post-SP3 hotfix.
This issue does not affect any Windows 2000 hotfixes available at the Microsoft Download Center or through Windows Update, including Windows 2000 security hotfixes. This issue affects only a small number of fixes that were made available only to users who called Microsoft Product Support Services between July 23, 2002 and August 8, 2002. These hotfixes are listed in the "Resolution" and "More Information" sections of this article.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because post-SP3 versions of the hotfixes may not include the latest updates and fixes that are compatible with the installation of Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

The post-SP3 versions of the Windows 2000 hotfixes that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article have been repackaged and are now compatible with Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000. A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.
