SNA Server Access Violation in S1PPTSPL and SBPBPUTT (326809)

SYMPTOMS

The SNA Server service may unexpectedly stop responding, which causes all connected users to lose their existing host sessions. If the default debugger is Drwtsn32.exe, the debugger generates a Drwtsn32.log file similar to the files shown later in this section.

Additionally, the SNA Server service logs a message similar to the following in the Windows NT Application Event Log:

CAUSE

If a link service sends an outage message to the SNA Server service with invalid maintenance statistics, it is possible for the SNA Server service to corrupt an internal memory control block, resulting in the access violations listed earlier.

RESOLUTION

SNA Server 4.0 SP4

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft SNA Server version 4.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
