This article was previously published under Q326744 SYMPTOMS
Dynamic Update may not be prepared on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) when you run Winnt32.exe with the /duprepare switch. Because of this, Dynamic Update fixes are not applied to client computers that are installed by using the shared Dynamic Update package.
CAUSE
You ran Winnt32.exe from a network share to create a Dynamic Update version 1.3 or later package.
This problem does not occur if the preparation is completed from a Windows XP CD-ROM or on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, either use a Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer to prepare the Dynamic Update 1.3 or later package, or add the /nodownload switch to the command line that is used to prepare the package on Windows 98 or Windows Me. For example, you might use the Winnt32 /duprepare:path /nodownload command.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
