The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q326694

SYMPTOMS

When you remove (uninstall) the Directory Services Client for Windows 95 and Windows 98, this removes the Wldap32.dll file, which is used by Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft NetMeeting.

RESOLUTION

If Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later is installed on the Windows 95 or Windows 98 client, reinstall Internet Explorer.

If Internet Explorer version 5.01 or earlier is installed on the client, extract the Wldap32.dll component from the Directory Services client. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Create a temporary directory, and then copy the Directory Services client installer to that directory.
  2. Run the following command (where "c:\temp" is the temporary directory that you created in step 1):

    c:\temp\dsclient.exe /c /t:c:\temp

  3. Copy Wldap32.dll from the temp directory to the system directory (for example, copy c:\temp\wldap32.dll to c:\windows\system).

NOTE: You may have to restart your computer in MS-DOS mode to do this.
  4. Delete the temp directory.
Alternatively, you can reinstall the Directory Services client, make a backup copy of Wldap32.dll, remove the Directory Services client, and then restore the backup Sldap32.dll file to the system directory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
