262631 Information about the Outlook E-mail Security Update

You Cannot Maximize Microsoft Outlook Again If the 'Opening Mail Attachment' Dialog Box Opens When Outlook Is Minimized

You cannot open a minimized instance of Outlook again if the Opening Mail Attachment dialog box opens. The dialog box does not appear for the user, and the only time that you can maximize Outlook again is if you switch tasks in the Task Manager.

You Can Use a Message Recall for a Distribution List Message When You Are Not the Original Sender

You can recall a message that was sent from a distribution list (DL) even though you are not the original sender of the message.

Advanced Security Problem on Windows XP

When you use Outlook 2000 on Windows XP and are using advanced security (from Microsoft Exchange), you may not be able to automatically enroll and you do not receive an error message.

Personal Folder (.pst) Files Auto-Compact Only Runs for a Short Period

When a large amount of data has been deleted from an Outlook 2000 personal folders (.pst) file, Auto-Compact will only compact a very small amount of the file.

Recipients With Addresses That Have More Than 255 Characters Are Truncated

If you type a combination of addresses in the To box that are longer that 256 characters in Outlook to send a message to multiple recipients, the addresses may be truncated.

The Insert As Shortcut Feature Does Not Work With Encrypted Messages

When you use the Insert as Shortcut feature in an encrypted message, it does not work as expected. The shortcut does not reach the recipient, and the body of your message is empty when it is received.

You Receive an Error Message When You Save a Read-Only Post Item with an Attachment to a Local Disk

If you open a read-only post item which also contains a file attachment in the Japanese version of Outlook 2000, you may receive the following error when you try to save the post as an .msg file:
You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator.

You Can Obtain the Microsoft Windows NT Domain Logon Credentials Through the Outlook:// URL

The "outlook://" protocol can be used through HTML to expose the Windows NT Domain logon credentials even when Microsoft Internet Explorer is set to prompt before sending credentials.

A (S/MIME) Signed-Only Message (Opaque) Message Is Sent As a S/MIME Signed-Only with Multipart (Clear) Message

When you send a Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME) Signed-Only message (opaque) message, the message that is actually sent is a S/MIME Signed-Only with multipart (clear) message.

The Outlook Attachment Security Is Bypassed If You Add a Period to a File Name

When you receive a message attachment that has a period added to the end of the file type information, the Outlook file attachment security features may fail.

Deleted Attachments Are Sent After They Are Removed from a Message

When you send an encrypted Rich Text Format (RTF) message with an attachment to a recipient that is not security enabled, you receive a prompt to cancel or send the message unencrypted. If you cancel the dialog box, delete the attachment, and send the message, the recipient receives the attachment as expected.

Digitally Signed Messages Open Slowly When You Are Offline and Disconnected

If you open a digitally signed message while you are offline and disconnected from the network, and the CRL Checking option is turned on (enabled), it may take longer then expected for the message to open

The CPU Spikes at 100 Percent When You Hold Down the Left Mouse Button

If you hold down the left mouse button down for more then a few seconds in Outlook 2000 running on Windows 2000, the CPU goes to 100 percent.

The Encryption Icon Is Removed from a Message When You Forward the Message, Save the Message, or Reply to the Message

When you receive an encrypted message and save the message, forward the message, or reply to the message, the Encryption icon on the message that you originally received changes.

Inbox Assistant Rules Are Missing After You Upgrade

When you use a version of Microsoft Outlook that uses Inbox Assistant Rules (for example, Microsoft Outlook for Macintosh) to set up rules for your mailbox, and you upgrade the rules by accessing your mailbox from Outlook 2000, your rules are missing or you cannot edit them if you go back to the computer that is running the Inbox Assistance Rules.

You Cannot Open Messages That Are Sent to Contacts That Are Grouped by Category

E-mail recipients cannot open messages when they are sent to contacts that are grouped by category.

MS-TNEF Encapsulation Included When Attachment Sent to Non-Exchange Recipient Listed in Global Address List

If you use Outlook 2000 to send an attached message to a contact that was copied from the Global Address List, the message exits in the Exchange Internet Mail Service encoded in a format that only Microsoft e-mail clients understand. The resulting messages received by non-Microsoft e-mail clients vary with the foreign system, but e-mail clients may see the attachments as garbled text or random filenames with a .DAT file name extension.

Outlook 2000 Stops Responding When You Use the Outlook Bar to Reach Secure Share

When you use an Outlook Bar shortcut to access a share by using NTFS file system-Permission, Outlook 2000 may stop responding if you do not have permissions to the folder.

Both the Username and Password Are Included in Office Watson Error Reports

Both the username and password are included in Office Watson error reports for Internet e-mail accounts that include Microsoft MSN Hotmail.

IMAP Logon Defaults the Focus to the 'User Name' Field

If you configure an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) profile in Outlook 2000, and then click to clear the Remember Password check box, the focus is on the User Name field instead of the Password field when you try to log on to the IMAP server. This may be a security issue if you start to type your password in the User Name field.

The Archived Certificate That Is Used to Sign a Message Is Not Sent with the Message

Outlook 2000 may use an archived certificate to sign a message, but the certificate is not sent with the message.

Error Message That References the Rtfhtml.dll File in Outlook 2000

When you use Outlook 2000 on a system that is running Microsoft Windows XP, Outlook 2000 may stop responding (hang) with an error message that references the Rtfhtml.dll file.

NOTE: This issue does not occur as a result of running Outlook 2000 on Windows XP. A similar error message may also occur when Outlook 2000 is running on other operating systems.

Outlook 2000 Stops Responding If the Preferred Public Folder Server Is Unavailable and a Failover Occurs

If you quit Outlook 2000 after a failover occurs when you try to access a preferred Public Folder server that is unavailable, Outlook 2000 may stop responding.
