This article was previously published under Q326658 SYMPTOMSWhen you try to open an unconverted Microsoft Office XP
document (.doc) that is stored on a compact flash (CF) card or on a Pocket PC
2000 device, Microsoft Pocket Word may stop responding, or hang, or exhibit
other erratic behavior. RESOLUTION To successfully open documents that you create in Microsoft
Word for Windows, you can transfer the file by using ActiveSync and the
associated conversion files. Pocket Word provides a number of
converters that allow you to use Word documents on Pocket PC devices. You must
use these Pocket Word converters when you transfer the documents from the
desktop to the Pocket PC device by using ActiveSync. To confirm that
ActiveSync is configured to use the file converters, follow these steps:
- Open ActiveSync on the desktop.
- On the Tools menu, click
Options, and then click the Rules
tab.
- Click Conversion Settings....
- On the General Tab, click Convert
files when synchronized, copied or moved.
- On the Desktop to Device tab, click to
select Microsoft Word Document from the list.
In the
"File conversion details" section, verify that the computer is set to convert
Microsoft Word Documents to Pocket Word Documents. - If ActiveSync is not set to convert Microsoft Word
Documents to Pocket Word, click Edit, click to select
Pocket Word from the drop-down list, and then click
OK.
- Continue to click OK until you return back
to the ActiveSync dialog box.
NOTE: This behavior may not occur on Pocket PC 2002
devices. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
