About AutoText
AutoText provides a storage location, and ease of insertion, for
text or graphics that you want to use repeatedly. Examples of typical AutoText
entries include contract clauses or long distribution lists. Each AutoText
entry is assigned a unique name.

Copy AutoText entries between computers
By default, AutoText entries, custom styles, custom toolbars, and
macros are stored in the Normal.dot template. You can create other templates to
contain other special AutoText and customizations. To copy AutoText entries
between computers, copy the template that contains them. This article tells how
to copy your Normal.dot file, which is the typical storage location for most
AutoText entries.

Copy the Normal.dot template from the source computer to a floppy disk
NOTE: Complete these steps on the
source computer, the computer that has the AutoText entries that you want to
copy.
- Insert a formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
- Click Start, and then click Search.
- Click All files and folders.
- In the All or part of the file name box,
type normal.dot.
- In the Look in list, click Local
Hard Drives, and then click Search.
- When the search has completed, right-click Normal.dot in the results pane, point to Send To, and then click the floppy disk drive that contains the formatted
disk.
NOTE: If the search returns more than one Normal.dot file, select the
one that appears in your user profile directory. - Remove the floppy disk, and then label it.
- Close the Search window.

Copy the Normal.dot template from the floppy disk to the target computer
NOTE: Complete these steps on the
target computer, the computer onto which you want to copy the AutoText entries.
- Insert the floppy disk that contains the Normal.dot file
into the floppy disk drive of the target computer.
- In Windows Explorer, locate the Normal.dot file on the
floppy disk.
- Right-click Normal.dot, and then click Copy.
- Click Start, and then click Search.
- Click All files and folders.
- In the All or part of the file name box,
type normal.dot.
- In the Look in list, click Local
Hard Drives, and then click Search.
- When the search has completed, right-click Normal.dot in the results pane, and then click Open Containing Folder.
NOTE: If your search returns more than one Normal.dot file, select the
one that appears in your user profile directory. - In the window that appears, right-click Normal.dot, and then click Rename.
- Type Oldnormal.dot, and then press
ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
