To reproduce your custom dictionary by using a floppy disk, follow these steps.

Part 1: Copy the Custom Dictionary to a Floppy Disk

  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Locate Custom.dic.

    Use the Search feature in Windows to locate the file if you cannot find it. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Search.
    2. Click All files and folders.
    3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Custom.dic, and then click Search.
  3. In Explorer, right-click the Custom.dic file that has the most recent modified date, and then click Copy.
  4. Insert a floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
  5. In Explorer, click the floppy disk drive, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
  6. Right-click the Custom.dic file that you just pasted, and then click Rename.
  7. In the box that appears, type a different name for the custom dictionary, such as CustomCopy.dic, and then press ENTER.
  8. When the process is complete, remove the floppy disk.

Part 2: Copy the Custom Dictionary from the Floppy Disk to Another Computer

  1. On the computer on which you want to use the custom dictionary, start Windows Explorer.
  2. Insert the floppy disk (the one that you used in part 1) into the floppy disk drive of this second computer.
  3. In Explorer, click the floppy disk drive, right-click CustomCopy.dic, and then click Copy.
  4. Locate the following folder

    path:\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof

    where path is the path to Microsoft Word. For example, the full default path for Office XP or Word 2002 is as follows:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof)

  5. Right-click the Proof folder, and then click Paste.
  6. Start Word.
  7. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  8. Click the Spelling and Grammar tab.
  9. Click Custom Dictionaries.
  10. Click Add.
  11. Click CustomCopy.dic, and then click OK.
