SYMPTOMS

If you have the Compaq NIC Teaming driver installed on your Windows 2000-based computer, and if the only IP address that you have is a static IP address that is assigned to the virtual network adapter, you may still receive the following error message when you install the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) service:
This computer has at least one dynamically assigned IP address. For reliable Windows Internet Name Service(WINS) operation, you should use only static IP addresses. You will now have the option to change this dynamically assigned IP address.

CAUSE

The WINS Setup program scans all the of the network adapters that do not have the NCF_VIRTUAL bit set. The Setup program does not display the error message if Setup detects at least one static IP address. The Compaq NIC Teaming virtual network adapter is skipped by the WINS Setup program because the adapter has the NCF_VIRTUAL bit set. You receive the error message because WINS Setup does not detect any static IP address.

RESOLUTION

You can ignore this error message if you have the Compaq NIC Teaming driver installed and your virtual network adapter has a static IP address.
