This article was previously published under Q326457 SYMPTOMS
If you insert two of the same SmartMedia cards in two of the same Antec SmartCard PCMCIA readers in Windows XP, you may receive a "Stop 0x000000CA" error message that indicates that a fatal Plug and Play error has occurred. The computer may also stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
Atapi.sys does not make the Plug and Play IDs of the Antec SmartMedia readers unique because they return the same serial number for different physical entities.
