HOW TO: Install Commerce Server 2002 Direct Mailer or Predictor Service on a SQL 2000 Cluster (326438)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Commerce Server 2002
This article was previously published under Q326438 SUMMARY
This step-by-step article describes how to install Commerce Server 2002 Direct Mailer or Predictor resources on a SQL 2000 cluster.
In Commerce Server 2002, the Direct Mailer and Predictor services are cluster aware. This article assumes that the SQL 2000 Cluster is online, and that you have the following information:
- The Cluster Network Name
- The Cluster IP Address
- The SQL 2000 Cluster Virtual Name
- The SQL 2000 Cluster IP Address
- The Network name for the SQL 2000 Cluster Nodes
- The IP Addresses of the SQL 2000 Cluster Nodes
Also, you must verify that the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) is configured and working in the cluster. To verify the network connectivity between the servers, you must successfully ping all servers in this environment from each other by network name and IP Address.
You must have a unique network name and IP Address for your Direct Mailer resource and a unique network name and IP Address for your Predictor resource. This information is required when you install of these resources.

Step-by-Step Procedure- Install Commerce Server 2002 on one of your Web servers by using the Web Server Installation. Provide the SQL Cluster virtual name or IP Address for the installation of the MSCS_Admin database, if you want failover protection for this database. The MSCS_Admin database does not have to exist in the same cluster, it can exist on another server.
- Verify that you have applied all of the Windows 2000 Patches that are included on the Commerce Server 2002 CD-ROM to all the servers as instructed in the installation documentation.
- In the Cluster Administrator, determine which cluster node is the active node. You must install Direct Mailer or Predictor service on this node first.
- Start the Commerce Server 2002 Installation Wizard on the active node.
- When you are prompted to answer if you have applied post-Windows 2000 patches, click OK.
- When you are prompted to install the .NET Framework, click No. You do not have to install the .NET Framework on the cluster for Commerce Server 2002 to work as expected.
- On the Welcome screen, click Next.
- Click to select I have purchased the licenses, and then click Next.
- On the Prerequisites screen, click Next.
- Click to select I accept the terms in this license agreement, and then click Next.
- On the Customer Information screen, type the User Name, Organization, and Product Key information, and then click Next.
- Locate a Destination folder, and then click Next.
- For Installation Type, click Custom, and then click Next.
- On the Custom Setup screen, click to select the Direct Mailer or Predictor service or services that you want to install. You can also click to clear the selection for the Commerce Site Packages. Click Next.
- On the Administration Database Configuration screen, type the server name where the MCSC_Admin database is installed, and then click Next. If you installed the MSCS_Admin database on the SQL 2000 Cluster, type the Virtual SQL Cluster name or IP Address.
NOTE: Microsoft recommends that you use Windows Integrated Security for SQL connectivity. - You receive the following message:
A Commerce Server Administration database exists on the specified SQL server computer
Click OK. - On the Direct Mailer Database Configuration screen, type the Virtual SQL Cluster name or IP Address, and then click Next.
NOTE: Microsoft recommends that you use Windows Integrated Security for SQL connectivity. - Type an account that the service will use during initialization, and then click Next.
- On the Virtual Server Resource Group screen, click to select Yes for Do you want to create a virtual server group for the Direct Mailer or Predictor service?.
- For IP Address, type the unique IP Address that the Direct Mailer or Predictor service will use.
- For Netmask, type a subnet mask.
- For Network Name, type a unique network name for the resource.
- For Network to Use, click to select Public. Click Next.
- If you selected both resources, you will be prompted for another unique IP Address, Netmask, Network Name, and Network to Use for the Predictor resource.
- Click Install to start the installation of Commerce Server 2002.
- The Commerce Server 2002 Successful Installation screen appears. Click to select the option to register online, or clear this option, and then click OK.
- Click OK to restart the server.
- During the restart, the SQL 2000 Cluster switches to the other node (server). Verify that the second computer is now the active node. If not, you must move the group by using the Cluster Administrator Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
- When the second server is the active node, start the Commerce Server 2002 installation on this server.
- Repeat steps 5 through 18 for this server.
- On the Virtual Server Resource Group screen, the edit boxes are unavailable (dimmed). These boxes contain the information that you provided during installation on the first cluster node. This is the expected behavior. If this does not appear, your installation is not aware of your cluster configuration and you must verify (and possibly install again) Commerce Server 2002 on the first node.
- Click Next to continue with the installation.
- If you are installing both resources (Direct Mailer and Predictor), another Virtual Server Resource Group screen appears. Click Next.
- Click Install to install Commerce Server 2002.
- The Commerce Server 2002 Successful Installation screen appears. Click to select the option to register online or clear this option, and then click OK.
- Click OK to restart the server.
- After the restart of the second node is completed, you can move the Commerce Direct Mailer or Commerce Predictor group (or groups) by using the Cluster Administrator MMC. The service comes back online after the move is completed.
