Exchange Migration Wizard unexpectedly quits when you import a personal address book item (326395)

SYMPTOMS

When you import a personal address book (PAB) item, the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Migration Wizard may quit unexpectedly, and you may receive a Dr. Watson error message. If the correct symbols are installed, the resulting stack in the Drwtsn32.log file is similar to the following stack:

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the personal address book item that Exchange 2000 is trying to import is damaged or corrupted.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

This update adds a memory verification procedure to the import process. This verification procedure causes the ScGetMMFPabRecip() function to fail if the import data is incorrect, but migration continues by obtaining the next entry.
