Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server performs very similarly with all protocols including Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI), and Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA). This white paper demonstrates how servers processing POP3, IMAP4, and OWA requests perform on Exchange 2000 Server as varying amounts of load are run against 4-processor and then 8-processor servers.
