This article was previously published under Q326194 SYMPTOMS
If you print an Office XP document that contains drawing objects such as AutoShapes, WordArt, or tables, the object may be printed in dark gray instead of black.
CAUSE
The printer may use the color cartridge instead of the black ink cartridge to generate black. This issue can occur if use a color PostScript printer to print drawing objects. The picture information and the color adjustment of drawing objects such as AutoShapes, WordArt, and tables are transferred directly, instead of using the Graphical Device Interface (GDI). As a result, the drawing objects are interpreted as color objects, and the printer uses the color ink cartridge instead of the black ink cartridge.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, open the printer Properties dialog box, and then configure the color graphics to be printed in black and white. The available options for most printers include color and either black and white or gray scale output.
To do this, follow these steps. NOTE: The following steps may be different for your printer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- On the File menu, click Print.
- Click Properties, and then click the Paper/Qualities tab.
- In the Color section, click Black & White.
- Click OK two times.
