An Error Occurs When You Load Wuau.adm with Poledit in Windows NT 4.0 (325909)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to load the Software Update Services Wuau.adm template in System Policy Editor in Windows NT 4.0, you may receive the following error message:
System Policy Editor
The following error occurred in Path\Wuau.adm on line 2:
Error 2000 Unexpected Keyword

Found: garbled characters
Expected: CLASS, CATEGORY,[strings]

The file can not be loaded.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because the Wuau.adm file uses Unicode, but Windows NT 4.0 does not support Unicode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, open the file in Notepad. Then, click Save as on the File menu in Notepad, and then click to clear the Save as Unicode check box.
