SYMPTOMS

If you try to log off from a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server front-end server or a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 front-end server while you are using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), you cannot completely log off from the Exchange server. For example, if you click Log Off in OWA, you are prompted to enter your network identification and your password. After you enter this information, you still cannot log off from the server.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the AuthNTLM metabase flag on the /exchweb/bin virtual directory is set to True. This configuration is not valid on an Exchange 2000 front-end server or an Exchange 2003 front-end server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, turn off Integrated Windows authentication for the front-end server. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. Right-click the Exchweb\bin virtual directory for the Default Web site in the console tree, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Directory Security tab, and then under Anonymous access and authentication control, click Edit.
  4. Click to clear the Integrated Windows Authentication check box, and then click OK.
  5. Under Basic Authentication, click Edit.

Note In Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6.0 and later, click to select the Basic Authentication check box.
  6. In the Domain Name box, type the same name for the /Exchange and /Public virtual directories that you used for the domain name.
  7. Right-click the default Web site, and then click Stop.
  8. Right-click the default Web site, and then click Start.
