SUMMARY

When you play MechWarrior 4 in multiplayer mode, players and factions use insignia graphics to identify their equipment. You can use custom decals for this purpose. This article describes how to use custom decals in MechWarrior 4. Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) does not provide assistance about how to create custom decals. Microsoft Product Support Services is available to help you resolve technical problems with setup, fatal errors that you may experience when you try to play the game, and display or sound issues.

The following steps are outlined for your version of the game.

MechWarrior 4

  1. Save your custom decals in the following folder:

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\MechWarrior Vengeance\Content\Textures\Customdecals

    where drive is the drive where MechWarrior 4 is installed.

    Note This path assumes a default installation and may be different on your computer.
  2. To turn on custom decals, start MechWarrior 4, click Multiplayer, click Options, and then click to select the Allow Custom Decals check box.
  3. Use the scroll arrows next to Player Insignia and Faction Insignia to select the custom decals that you want to use.

    Your custom decals are included in the insignia choices.
  4. Click Reset.

    Note Custom decals may take a long time to load by modem. If you use custom decals in games that are run on modem servers, the mission load time may be long. Administrators of modem servers may want to disallow the use of custom decals.

MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries

To use customer decals in MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries, copy the Textures folder to the content folder that is located in the MechWarrior 4 Mercanaries folder. To do this, copy the MechWarrior Vengeance Textures folder to the MechWarrior Mercenaries Content folder.

Note These steps assume that you have MechWarrior 4 Vengeance installed on your computer.
  1. To use custom decals in MechWarrior Mercenaries, copy the Textures folder from the Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance folder to the following folder:

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\MechWarrior Mercenaries\content

  2. After you copy theTextures folder to Content folder, create a new folder and name it Customdecals. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Content folder, click File, and then click New/New Folder.
    2. Rename the new folder Customdecals.
    3. Put your custom decals in the Customdecals folder.
