You cannot open a Word 97 document or a Word 98 document in Internet Explorer when Word 2000 is installed (325841)

Internet Explorer on a computer on which Word 2000 is installed, the Word 2000
process may end and you may not receive any error messages. This problem does
not occur if the grammar checker is turned off.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the previous version of a Word
document is opened in Internet Explorer, when the grammar checker is
running.RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 276367 OFF2000: How to Obtain the Latest Office 2000 Service Pack The English version of this fix has the file
attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and
times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you
view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the
difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, turn off the background
Spelling and Grammar feature. To do so, follow these steps: - On the Tool menu, click Options, and then click the Spelling and Grammar tab.
- Click to clear the following two check boxes, and then
click OK.
- Check spelling as you type.
- Check grammar as you type.

This problem was first corrected in
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
