This article was previously published under Q325716 SYMPTOMS After you upgrade a server to Windows Server 2003, and the
server is a Microsoft Windows 2000-based server with Services for Macintosh
installed, some files or folders may have a garbled name on the Macintosh
clients. These names were already garbled in Windows Explorer on the Windows
2000-based server. CAUSE The 0xF0 code position is converted to a special Unicode
character in Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000. This conversion was removed
in Windows Server 2003.
This change was made so that both client
types (Windows and Macintosh) can determine the file name correctly. Location
0xF0 is used in all code pages; the most popular character is in the Greek code
page (it is the lowercase pi character). RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, obtain the files for the Windows
2000 hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
article:
302737 SFM Does Not Handle Greek Lowercase pi Correctly in File Names
Run the hotfix program file with the /x switch. You are prompted for a location for the hotfix files. You
can then find the Renlogo.exe file in this folder. You do not have to set the
registry key. Run Renlogo.exe on the Windows Server 2003-based server by
following the instructions in the article.
