BUG: MP3 audio files and WMA audio files are deleted when a Smartphone is turned off (325651)

SYMPTOMS

When the Smartphone 2002 is turned off, the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files are deleted from the Smartphone. This problem occurs when you download the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files by using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

CAUSE

Internet Explorer downloads the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files to a volatile region of memory. This volatile region of memory is cleared when you restart the Smartphone. You cannot move the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files out of volatile memory to non-volatile memory or to a storage card.

RESOLUTION

You can keep the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files on your Smartphone, even when the Smartphone is turned off. Use Microsoft ActiveSync Explorer to move a file to the \IPSM\My Documents folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Connect your Smartphone to your computer.
  2. On your computer, start ActiveSync Explorer.
  3. Click Explore.
  4. Locate the \IPSM\Application Data\Volatile folder.
  5. Right-click the media file that you want, and then click Cut.
  6. Locate the \IPSM\My Documents folder.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
If you have a storage card, you can also move the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files to the storage card. Microsoft Windows Media Player looks in the root directory of the storage card to find the MP3 audio files and the WMA audio files that are available.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
