SYMPTOMS

When you click a hyperlink in any Microsoft Office XP program, you may receive the following error message:
This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you apply the Only run allowed Windows Applications (RestrictRun) system policy on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer or a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Office XP service pack that contains this fix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix.
