SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a PowerPoint presentation that contains a movie and that was created on a different computer, you may receive the following error message:
MPEG16: Create 32 Test_CDM unsuccessful
If you click OK to clear the error message, the presentation eventually opens. If you view the slide show, the movie plays correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following

    drive:winnt\system.ini

    and then click OK to open the System.ini file in Notepad, where drive is the drive on which Windows is installed.
  3. In the [MCI] section, locate the following line:

    MPEGVIDEO=MPEG16.DLL

  4. Click at the beginning of that line, type rem, and then press the SPACEBAR one time.
  5. Save the System.ini file, and then close Notepad.
  6. Restart the computer.
The PowerPoint presentation now opens without giving an error message.
