This article was previously published under Q325414 SYMPTOMS If you type an IP version 6 address in the Address box in Microsoft Internet Explorer on a computer that supports
the IPv6 protocol, you may receive either of the following error
messages: Internet Explorer cannot open the

error. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer
cannot parse IPv6 addresses.
The version of Internet Explorer provided with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP does not support uniform resource locators (URLs) that use the format for literal IPv6 addresses. Explorer. STATUSMicrosoft
