You Cannot Install Dial-Up Networking 1.4 When the Windows 9x Directory Services Client Is Installed (325397)

This article was previously published under Q325397 SYMPTOMS If you have installed the Directory Services client for
Windows 95 and Windows 98 that is provided on the Windows 2000 Server CD,
Microsoft Dial-up Networking 1.4 (DUN 1.4) may not install. The DUN 1.4
confirmation and end user license agreement (EULA) dialog boxes work as
expected, but you may receive the following error message:
Title: Microsoft Dial-Up Networking 1.4
Text: This update is not designed for your version of Windows.
Press Ok to exit.
[ OK ]
CAUSE This behavior may occur because DUN 1.4 blocks installation
if it detects the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OptionalComponents\DsClient The original Directory Services client for Windows
95 and Windows 98 uses this registry key. DUN 1.4 blocks this key because it
