OL2000: "Invalid Page Fault" Error Message When You Start Outlook, Read Mail, or Save Attachments (325370)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook 2000, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module unknown.
-or-
Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module exsec32.dll.
-or-
Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll.
You may also receive one of these error messages if you try to read messages or save an e-mail attachment to your computer's hard disk.

After you receive the error message, Outlook may not start successfully. If the program does start, it is slow to respond.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. In the Search Results pane, click All files and folders under Search Companion.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type mapistub.dll, and then click Search.
  4. In the list of files found, right-click mapistub.dll, and then click Rename.
  5. Type mapistub.old, and then press ENTER.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 to rename the following files:

    Mapi32x.dll to Mapi32x.old
    Mapi32.dll to Mapi32.old
    Mapi.dll to Mapi.old
    Extend.dat to Extend.old
    Outllib.dll to Outllib.old
    Outcmd.dat to Outcmd.old

  7. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  8. In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
  9. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Office 2000, and then click Change.
  10. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
  11. Click Repair errors in my Office installation.
  12. Click to select the Restore my shortcuts check box, and then click Finish. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair of Office 2000.
  13. Restart the computer, and then start Outlook.

    The program will start without error messages.
