SYMPTOMS
After you restore Exchange Server 5.5 Private and Public Information Stores, the Exchange Information Store service may not start. When you try to manually start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, you may receive the 3355443757 server specific error. If you look at the registry, you find the RestoreinProgress subkey that indicates that the hard restore has not completed successfully.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, rename the Exchange data folders, copy the log files to the new data folder, remove the RestoreinProgress registry subkey, and then run the restore process again:
- In Windows Explorer, locate the Program Files\Exchsrvr folder.
- Right-click the Mdbdata folder, and then click Rename.
- Type Mdbdataold, and then press ENTER.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type Mdbdata and then press ENTER.
- Double-click the Mdbdataold folder.
- In the right pane click all the .log files. To do this, press and hold the CTRL key, and then click each file one time.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Right-click the Mdbdata folder, and then click Paste.
- Right-click the Mdbdataold folder, and then click Cut.
- Right-click the Temp folder, and then click Paste.
- Repeat steps 2-11 for every Mdbdata folder on all disk partitions of the Exchange server. Move the renamed folder to the Temp folder on that disk partition.
- Start Registry Editor, and then locate the following subkey in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\RestoreinProgress - Delete the RestoreinProgress subkey, and then
click Yes to confirm the deletion. Quit Registry Editor.
- Run the restoration process again.
