OL2002: Error Messages When You Search the Address Book by Using a Full User Name (325314)

SYMPTOMS If you type a full user name in the Display Name field in the Find dialog box of your address book when you try to search a
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server in Outlook 2002, you may
receive the following error messages: Unable to display
results because too many entries in the Internet Directory match your search
criteria. -and- The search could not be
completed. MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. -and- Cannot
contact the LDAP server (81) error. RESOLUTIONWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the following steps after you have installed the latest Microsoft Office XP service pack. - Quit Outlook 2002.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Verify that the following key exists. If it does, go to step 5.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\LDAP If the key does not exist, you must create it. To do so:- Locate and then select the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook - On the Edit menu, click New, and then click Key.
- Type ldap, and then press the ENTER key.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value
- Type NoDisplayNameSearch for the new value, and then press the ENTER key.
- Right-click the new string value name, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
Outlook 2003- Quit Outlook 2003.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Verify that the following key exists. If it does, go to step 5.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\LDAP If the key does not exist, you must create it. To do so:- Locate and then select the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook - On the Edit menu, click New, and then click Key.
- Type ldap, and then press the ENTER key.
- On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type NoDisplayNameSearch, and then press the ENTER key.
- Right-click the new string value name, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
