USB Devices stop working after you insert a USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter into a Toshiba computer (325309)

SYMPTOMS

After you insert a USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter into one of the following Toshiba computers, the built-in USB devices may stop working:
  • PORTEGE 2000
  • DynaBook SS 2000 DS80P/2
  • DynaBook SS S4/275PNHW
  • DynaBook SS 2000 DS75P/2
Note The problem was also reported on HP Pavilion DV1000 notebooks.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply Service Pack 1 for Windows XP or the hotfix that is associated with Q315754.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
