Distribution Through HTTP Proxy Only Works on Port 80 (325108)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Media Services 4.1
This article was previously published under Q325108 SYMPTOMS
When you try to distribute a stream from one Windows Media Services server to another Windows Media Services server through an HTTP proxy, the connection is never made.
CAUSE
Windows Media Services 4.1 does not support streaming through an HTTP proxy on any port other than 80.
WORKAROUND
Change the proxy to use port 80 for client connections.
MORE INFORMATION
In the Windows Media Administrator, you can specify a proxy server for distribution. To do this, open the server properties, and then click the Distribution Authentication tab. You can specify the proxy IP address or domain name, but not the port. Even adding :port number to the end of the address does not work. For example, an address of 10.1.1.1 is valid, but 10.1.1.1:8080 is not.
