Because your applications may grow beyond the 2-gigabyte (GB) data limit of MSDE 2000, or the application's user base may grow beyond the work load limitation in MSDE 2000, you may have to migrate the MSDE 2000 solution to SQL Server. SQL Server can handle hundreds of concurrent users and databases that grow to sizes beyond one terabyte (TB). By migrating to SQL Server, you can fulfill scalability needs without having to make costly and time-consuming changes to existing applications.

When the time comes to migrate your MSDE 2000 to SQL Server, you have several options:

• You can upgrade the existing MSDE 2000 to SQL Server. The SQL Server installation program recognizes an installation of MSDE 2000 and its accompanying data files and transaction logs.
