One of Your Two PC Card Devices Does Not Work (324952)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q324952 SYMPTOMS
If the following conditions exist, one of your adapters may not work:
- Your computer has both an ATA adapter (such as an IBM MicroDrive) and another PC card (such as a network adapter).
- You start your computer, or you dock your computer.
In Device Manager, the adapter that does not work has a yellow circle with an exclamation point and an error code 10 or 12.
CAUSE
This problem may occur during the rebalancing of the device nodes for the two devices. During the rebalancing, the system may not find an ideal configuration, but it may find a working configuration. Before the working configuration is set, a retest occurs. If the retest fails, the configuration cannot be used, and only one of the two devices works.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, either reinsert the PC card that does not work, or restart your computer. If this process does not work around the problem, remove all of the PC cards, insert the PC card that does not work first, and then insert the remaining PC cards. If you have empty PC card sockets, you can try inserting the PC card that does not work into one of these empty sockets.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
