OL2000: You Cannot Open an OLE Object When Outlook Is Closed (324945)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Microsoft Outlook 97 to Microsoft Outlook 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1), you may receive the following error message when you open a Microsoft Outlook OLE Object from a program or document other than Microsoft Outlook:
The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions.
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
* Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
(C:\path\filename)

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
