OL2002: You Cannot Open an Item That Was Inserted As a Shortcut in the Body of a Message (324926)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to open an item that was inserted as a shortcut in the body of a message, the item does not open.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this behavior:
  • Type the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) to the shortcut instead of inserting the item as a shortcut in the message. -or-

  • Use the Outlook Security Form on the Microsoft Exchange Server to turn on (enable) the Allow In Place Activation of OLE embedded objects option. To do this:
    1. Set up the Outlook security template as described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

      290499 OL2002: Administrator Information About E-Mail Security Features

    2. In the Outlook security template, click to select the Allow in-place activation of embedded OLE objects check box under Outlook Security Settings on the Miscellaneous attachment settings tab.
