OFFXP: "Error 1312. Cannot Create the Directory..." Error Message When You Try to Install Office XP (324845)

When you try to install Office XP, you may receive an error message similar to the following, where FolderName is the name of a folder:
Error 1312. Cannot create the directory
FolderName. A file with this name already exists. Please rename or remove the file and click Retry, or click Cancel to exit.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, rename the folder that is mentioned in the error message, and then click Retry to resume the installation process. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Folder Options.
- Click the View tab.
- Click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.
When the confirmation message appears, click Yes. - Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Close Control Panel.
- Start Windows Explorer, and then locate the folder that is mentioned in the error message.
- Right-click this folder, and then click Rename.
- Type
FolderName.old, and then press ENTER, where FolderName is the name of the folder that is mentioned in the error message.
- In the error message dialog box, click Retry to resume the installation process.
