Session Summary

Page navigation is an important paradigm in Web-based programs. Sometimes, however, your business requirements demand that data be updated in-place without refreshing or using a GET or POST command to obtain an updated copy of the current page. Internet Explorer versions 4.0 and later have acquired an increasingly rich set of capabilities for in-place retrieval of remote data. During this session, we will review the historical progress of Internet Explorer. We will also discuss some of the most popular methods of networking, including download behavior, XML DOM, and XML Web Services behavior. We will also review common networked page architectures and issues that this type of project must avoid.

This is a Level 300 session that was recorded May 28, 2002 and presented by Jay Allen. Jay Allen is a Technical Lead in the Developer Support Internet Client team, where he debugs developer issues involving DHTML, ActiveX and WinForms controls in Internet Explorer, WebBrowser hosting, and C++-based browser extensions, and other technologies. He has seven years of industry experience developing Web-based programs for large Fortune 500 firms.
