BUG: Pocket PC 2002: Deleted Items Folder Emptied Unexpectedly (324578)

SYMPTOMS

Although the option for emptying the Deleted Items folder in the Inbox is set to Manually, the folder is automatically emptied when you connect to the mail server.

CAUSE

This is a known issue with Pocket PC 2002 when you use an Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4) or Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) Inbox service.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the Inbox.
  2. On the Services menu, tap a valid IMAP4 or POP3 Inbox service. If you need to, configure and test a service to make sure that mail can be sent and received.
  3. On the Tools menu, tap Options.
  4. Set Empty Deleted Items to Manually, and then tap OK.
  5. Delete a mail message.
  6. Open the Deleted Items folder and note that the deleted message appears in the folder.
  7. On the Services menu, tap Connect (you may have to tap Disconnect first). Note that the message is removed from the Deleted Items folder automatically during connection.
