PRB: You Are Prompted for the CD Key During the SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Remote Installation (324559)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot install the SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition if you select the Remote Computer option from the Computer Name installation dialog box.

If you try to perform a remote installation of the Evaluation Edition, the CD Key dialog box opens and you must type your 25-digit CD key to proceed with the installation; however, the Evaluation Edition does not include a CD key.

STATUS

This behavior is by design and it only applies to the Evaluation Edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
