XCON: Exchange 2000 Exchange System Manager Displays a Question Mark for Exchange Protocols (324357)

When you use Exchange System Manager to view a remote Exchange 2000 Server computer, question marks may be displayed for the following protocols:
- Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
- Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4rev1 (IMAP4)
- Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3)
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
If you try to set focus on these protocols, you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE
When you use Exchange System Manager to examine the SMTP service (for example) of a remote computer, a query is created to examine the metabase properties of the remote computer. You must have authentication to gain access to the metabase of a remote computer. This issue may occur if the Kerberos protocol is used for the authentication; the query may return a failure notification if the name of the computer that you are trying to gain access to also matches the name of a Microsoft Windows NT account.
For example, if you run Exchange System Manager on SERVER2, and then you try to gain access to SERVER1 to examine the SMTP service, you may receive the error message in the "Symptoms" section of this article if a Windows NT account of SERVER1 also exists.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain the Microsoft COM+ Hotfix Rollup 21.
