Your Systems Management Server 2.0 client cannot upload software metering log files to the SMS site server (324307)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0

This article was previously published under Q324307

SYMPTOMS

If you configure a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 client to use offline software metering, the client's Software Metering Agent may not correctly upload the offline software metering log files to the SMS site server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you specify a custom path for the SMS 2.0 installation files when you install the SMS 2.0 client software. For example, this problem occurs if you specify C:\SMS as the installation folder instead of using the default installation folder, %windir%\Ms. When the SMS 2.0 Software Metering Agent cannot locate the custom installation folder, it writes all the metering data to the %windir%\Ms\SMS\Clicomp\Licmtr folder. However, when the Software Metering Agent tries to upload the offline log files to the SMS site server, it looks for the log files in the custom installation folder. Because it cannot find the log files, no data is uploaded to the SMS 2.0 site server.
