Notes

DMO is interface for codecs in Windows Media Player 7, 7.1 and 8. VCM is an older interface that is used in older NetShow players and can also work in Windows Media Player 6.4. DirectShow is used for codecs in Windows Media Player 6.4.

These codecs are installed automatically as a part of Windows Media Player for Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Media Player 7.1. Microsoft recommends that users who are running Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows 2000 download Windows Media Player 7.1 to play back content that was created with the latest Windows Media audio and video codecs.

For network administrators in a Windows 2000 environment who want to deploy these codecs, the Enterprise Deployment Pack makes it easy to get all of the benefits of Windows Media Player 7.1 in a managed, cost-effective way.

The Windows Media Codecs download package installs Windows Media Video versions 7 and 8, Windows Media Audio (all versions), Windows Media Screen version 7, and other older codecs. It is designed to help network administrators to deploy these codecs in their network, and includes a graphical user interface that guides administrators through the installation process. For a silent installation, administrators can use the "/q:a" and "/r:n" parameters.
