WMI Error Messages May Occur If You Assign DNS Rules in Operations Manager (324229)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q324229 SYMPTOMS
By default, Domain Name System (DNS) rules are turned on in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000. If you activate the DNS rules that work with the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider by associating computer groups with them, you may receive the following error message:
Severity: Error
Resolution State: New
Source: OnePoint Operations
Name: Error Trigger
Description: The Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 WMI provider
could not register query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WHERE
TargetInstance ISA 'MicrosoftDNS_Zone' and TargetInstance.AllowUpdate = 1".
Ensure that the WMI Query is valid.
Domain: Domainname
Computer: Computername
Time: 5/31/2002 9:12:42 AM
Owner:
Repeat Count: 0
Event Number: 25402
Processing Rule GUID: {E339FD82-80BD-48AC-919F-C6E4AE4F56CC}
You receive the error message (or a similar error message) if you activate the following rules:
- A DNS zone is configured to allow all (even non-secure) dynamic updates.
- A DNS zone is configured to allow only secure dynamic updates.
- A DNS server is configured to perform scavenging of stale records.
- A DNS zone is configured to prevent dynamic updates.
- A DNS zone is configured to allow scavenging of stale records in the zone.
- A DNS zone is configured to prevent scavenging of stale records in the zone.
- A DNS server is configured not to perform scavenging of stale records.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the WMI namespace that is referenced by the query does not exist.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, turn off each of the seven rules that are listed earlier in this article.
