This article was previously published under Q324189 SYMPTOMSIn Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), SNMP trap data
is misaligned in SnmpNotification objects. This occurs if MIB objects that
are mapped in the VARIABLES clause of the trap definition (TRAP-TYPE) are not
present, or are out of order in the variable-bindings field of the SNMP trap Protocol Data Unit (PDU).
CAUSEAccording to Request for Comments (RFC) 1215 ("A Convention for Defining Traps for
Use with the SNMP"), the VARIABLES clause defines the ordered
sequence of MIB objects that are contained in every instance of the trap
type. Each variable is placed, in order, in the variable-bindings field of
the SNMP trap PDU. Although many SNMP browsers permit deviations from RFC 1215,
the SNMP provider in WMI does not permit missing MIB objects in a
trap.
