OL2000: The 'Clear Cache' Button Does Not Clear the Forms Cache (324130)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q324130 SYMPTOMS If you try to open an item that is based on a custom form,
Outlook 2000 may display the item in one of the standard forms instead of using
the custom form.
If you click the Clear Cache button, Outlook 2000 continues to render the item in the standard
form. CAUSE This problem occurs because Outlook 2000 cannot locate the
custom form definition and adds an entry to the Frmcache.dat file that maps
these items to a standard form. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 276367 OFF2000: How to Obtain the Latest Office 2000 Service Pack A supported fix is now available for the Clear Cache button to allow these entries to be removed from the Frmcache.dat
file. The English-language version of this fix should have the following
file attributes or later:
Date Time Size File name
-------------------------------------------------------
17-Jun-2002 03:55 2,673,152 Outlook.msp
17-Jun-2002 04:01 7,716,352 Outlook_admin.msp
After the fix is installed, the English-language version of this
fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following
table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal
time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time.
To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
Date Time Version Size File name
-------------------------------------------------------
20-May-2002 13:29 8.30.3151.0 779,024 Outex.dll
WORKAROUND This problem does not occur when you work with forms that
are published in the Organizational Forms Library because the forms that are
published to the Organizational Forms Library are available to all items.
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).MORE INFORMATION The Clear Cache button does not clear the entry, and to resolve this problem, you
must delete the Frmcache.dat file.
For Outlook 2000 to locate a
custom form definition, the form must be published to the current folder, the
Personal Forms Library, or the Organizational Forms Library. Outlook 2000 finds
the custom form definition if the form has already be cached, but solutions
should not be designed to rely on the cache as a forms library.
