SUMMARY

This step-by-step article describes how (after you migrate your Web site) to check your Web site to make sure that the migration completed successfully. You can do this by using the Microsoft FrontPage Extensions or by using Microsoft FrontPage. This document describes how to use both products to check and to fix your migrated Web sites.

Use FrontPage Extensions to Recalculate the Links

You can recalculate the links in a Web site by using the FrontPage Extensions to identify any potential problems in a Web site and then to fix the problems by updating the files directly.

You must have the FrontPage Extensions installed on your computer.

To do this using the Fpsrvadm utility:
  1. To open a command prompt, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
  2. Change directories to where the file Fpsrvadm.exe is located, and then type the following command line where nnn is the port number and hostname is host name of the site that you want to check and to recalculate:

        fpsrvadm.exe -o recalc -p nnn -m hostname
Assuming the process works correctly, you do not receive any error output from the site. If any errors are reported, check the errors and fix the problem before recalculating the site again.

Use FrontPage to Fix Links

To fix the links by using the FrontPage Web builder:
  1. Open your Web site with FrontPage 2000.
  2. Open the Reports View.
  3. Select the type of hyperlink that you want to verify. If you do not see this option, you have to turn on the remote control. To do so, on the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Reporting.
  4. Click Yes when you are prompted to scan all the links.
  5. After the process is complete, check the list of links. Each link that has a broken chain link icon next to it is a link that is faulty.
  6. Right-click the link, and then click Edit Hyperlink.
  7. Copy the link, paste it in the Address bar of your browser, and then try to open it. If the link is not faulty, return to FrontPage, and then close the Edit Hyperlink dialog box.
  8. If the link is faulty, replace the link with the correct location, and then click Replace to replace that link across all the pages in your Web site.
  9. Repeat the process until you have fixed all broken links.
