This article was previously published under Q324011

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the CSoapWininetClient or the CSoapMSXMLInetClient class to call a Web service method, the call returns E_FAIL (0x80004004), and the CSoapFault member returns the following fault string:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server found request content type to be '', but expected 'text/xml'.
   at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapServerProtocol.ReadParameters()
   at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebServiceHandler.Invoke()
   at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebServiceHandler.CoreProcessRequest()

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the CSoapWininetClient and the CSoapMSXMLInetClient classes must set the content type to "text/xml" to call Web services.
