SYMPTOMS
When you try to visit a secure Web site by using the Microsoft Money
Web browser or by using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you receive one of the following
error messages:
Money cannot establish secure
communication with the Internet, banking, or brokerage server because the
server's digital certificate is invalid. If the problem persists, contact your
Financial Institution.
Money can not run because your system is unable
to encrypt data at the required level. To fix this, connect to the internet and
download the latest security upgrade from:
http://www.microsoft.com/money/security/
Money
was unable to establish a secure connection because the digital certificate was
invalid.
Error: Money was unable to establish a
secure connection....... OFXIE 12045
Note Error messages may vary, depending on which browser you are
using.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the following methods in the order that they appear in.
Method 1: Check the system date and time
Double-click the clock in the notification area, at the far right
of the taskbar. In the
Date/Time Properties dialog box, you
can change the date, time, and time zone.
Note An incorrect system date and time causes this error in any
version of Internet Explorer.
If the date and time were incorrect, test your connection after you correct this information.
Method 2: Configure Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Internet
Options.
- On the Security tab, click the
Internet icon.
- Click Custom Level.
- Under
Reset custom settings, click Medium-low, and
then click Reset. Click Yes, and then click
OK.
- On the Advanced tab, click Restore
Defaults.
- Scroll down to the Security
settings, and verify that the following check boxes are selected:
After you make these changes, test your connection in Money. If the issue is still not resolved, go to Method 3.
Method 3: Upgrade Internet Explorer
To obtain and install the latest version of Microsoft Internet
Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
If you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer on
Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Millennium Edition, try rolling back to a
previous version of Internet Explorer.
- Click Start, point to
Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- Double-click Internet Explorer, and follow
the directions on your screen.
- If the steps above do not resolve the issue, and if you are
using Microsoft Windows XP, you may have to repair Internet Explorer.

After you upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer, test to see if the issue is resolved.
