OFF2000: You Cannot Select an Item in the Save In Box of the Save As Dialog Box or in the Custom AutoFilter Dialog Box (323896)

SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft Office 2000 program, on the File menu, you click Save As, and then you try to select a location in the Save in box, but you cannot select a location.

You may experience similar behavior in Excel 2000. On the Data menu, you point to Filter, you click AutoFilter, you click the arrow that indicates the column of data that you want, and then you click Custom, but when you try to select an item from one of the lists, it is not selected.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if all the following conditions are true, in the order that they are presented:
  • The Office document contains a form with a Web browser control.

    -and-
  • You use the Web browser control to locate different Web sites.

    -and-
  • You try to perform one of the procedures that is listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the keys on your keyboard to specify the location that you want in the Save in box of the Save As dialog box and to select the filter options that you want in the Custom AutoFilter dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
