Certification Authority Root Certificate Is Not Visible in the Certification Path (323870)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP2
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q323870 SUMMARY
The certification authority root certificate is not visible in the Certification Path window in Windows 2000 with Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Microsoft Outlook 2002. You cannot manually verify the certification path.
MORE INFORMATION
The root is listed in the certification hierarchy dialog box because the subordinate is registered in the trusted root store. In Windows 2000, checking of the trust chain stops when a certificate that is registered as a trusted root is found. This implementation detail has been changed in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows .NET, where the chain is followed until a real root certification authority certificate is found.
The problem does not occur with Windows XP.
