You receive an error message when you add a user to the permissions of a public folder
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, grant Delegate access to any mailbox account, apply the Delegate access, and then remove Delegate access from the account. This action forces a re-write of the Access Control Lists (ACL) at the mailbox level, which propagates to the folders.
To grant, apply, and then remove Delegate access:
- In the Microsoft Outlook 2002 client, click Tools, click Options, and then click Delegates.
- Click Add, and then click any user in the global address list field.
- In the Permissions page, click OK, click Apply, and then click OK again.
- Click Tools, click Options, click Delegates, and then remove the user that you added in step 2.
After you complete this procedure you can add permissions to the folders in the mailbox.
